Watchdog says gets powers to control cross-border data sharing

MOSCOW, Mar 1 (PRIME) -- The Russian communications service starts considering notifications from personal data operators on their intention to transfer data abroad and will decide on a ban or limitation if needed, the watchdog said on Wednesday in a statement.

“The new order of informing of the communications service of cross-border data sharing will come in force on March 1, 2023,” the service said.

Prior to the expiration of 10 days after the application, the companies will be prohibited to share data with the countries failing to provide proper protection of the rights of personal data subjects.
